Zoé Soteres

actress, singer, playwright, director

  • Hi!

My name is Zoé, and I’m a Greek-American artist based in Chicago. I have experience in theatre, film, directing, devising and ensemble-based theatre, improv, playwriting, singing and vocal performance (musical theatre, cabaret, jazz, opera, rock, alternative, hyperpop, and R&B), producing, artistic direction, commercial and animation voiceover, stage management, costume design, choreography, and dance, and am always looking for ways to expand my artistic interests and abilities.

I’m also a recent graduate of the BFA Acting program at The Theatre School at DePaul University, having also studied public law and political thought.

My mom is an opera singer and my dad is a poet, so I grew up surrounded by incredible artists who inspired me to pursue my interests. Thanks to them, I grew up with the passion to pursue many different forms of art, including poetry, singing, acting, playwriting, directing, songwriting, drawing, and creative writing.

When I’m not making art, I love reading, studying up on political theory and philosophy, hanging with my roommate, watching movies, and listening to music on my Discman.

  • I’m all about crafting art and performances that are authentic and intelligent, and draw inspiration from both avant-garde and traditional forms of art. Through collaboration and a commitment to fun and professional spaces, I aim to provoke thought and inspire change, fostering empathy and understanding in audiences and creatives alike. I try to bring passion, a hard working attitude, honesty, and kindness to everything I do.

I have experience in film, theatre, commercials, and print, and enjoy working on all of them. I also have experience in playwriting, directing, and singing/musical theatre.

  • On December 5th, a production of How To Make Friends & Then Kill Them with Sub Rosa Theatre Collective that I costume designed and WHAM’d will be going up. Get tickets here.

On December 3rd, I will be performing a Christmas song with Merry Measures.

I am also currently in development for a screenplay, Helen Lapinsky, a one woman film and play, Bare, a one woman cabaret, and a book about Durational Theatre.

  • Most recently, I came in second place for Davenport’s 1000 Dollar Sing Off for my performance of Glitter and Be Gay. I also recently hosted a reading of my play, In Pursuit Of, at Emerald City Coffee.

I was named a finalist for the Emerging Artists Scholarship, and performed a three song mini-set in August at the Emerging Artists Showcase. Other recent singing performances include in September, when I performed at Acts of Kindness Cabaret (Lost in the Brass, I’m A Stranger Here Myself) and at the Davenports 1000 Dollar Sing-Off (Part of your World).

I also recently lent my voice to two voiceover projects, which are expected to come out this year. Additionally, I recently shot, co-wrote, and starred in a short film, Brainstorm.

My production of An Enemy of the People, which I directed and adapted, had a successful, sold out run at The Den Theatre. Find out more here. You can also read the review here.

I was also lucky enough, in August, to perform a three song mini-set as a finalist for the Emerging Artists Showcase in August of 2024. I was also recently named the recipient of the prestigious 2024 Donald M. Ephraim Award. I was also fortunate enough to receive the 2023-2024 Sarah Siddons Scholarship Award. Shortly thereafter, I performed with Sarah Siddons at their 2024 Swell Soiree. Read more here.

Additionally, in 2018, I was recognized with the Junior Women of Achievement Award from Cribs for Kids for my non-profit work. I started an organization called the Young Artist’s Foundation, which raised money for music and arts education across the United States through self-produced, student-led concerts and other performances.
